Wedding DJ at Thousand Islands Club Wellesley Island, NY
The Thousand Islands Club sits on Wellesley Island, on the St. Lawrence River near the Canadian border, and it is one of the most beautiful places I have ever set up. The ceremony is on the lawn looking out to the river, dinner is on the porch along the clubhouse, and the dancing happens under a tent beside the ceremony lawn.
What I know about this venue
A DJ walking into a room for the first time spends the first hour learning it. Where power is, how the ceremony space carries sound, where the booth can sit without blocking a sightline, how long load-in actually takes when the parking is full.
None of that is difficult. It is just time, and on a wedding day time is the one thing nobody has spare. Having worked Thousand Islands Club before means that hour is already spent, and it was spent on a day that was not yours.
The wedding I worked here was planned to end at ten. It ran to half past, I played the last song, and then I heard the bride ask whether anybody had a speaker. I was still standing there with a full system, so we kept going until half past eleven. The floor had been running on house and EDM most of the night, which is not what most weddings ask for and was exactly what this one wanted.
The ceremony looks out to the river
The aisle runs across the lawn toward the stone monument, with the boathouse, the marina and the St. Lawrence behind it. Chairs and benches on the grass, lanterns along the path, and the water behind everything. The tent is right beside it, so nobody gets walked across the property after the vows.
Dinner on the porch, dancing under the tent
Dinner is on the covered porch along the front of the clubhouse, above the terraced garden. The dancing is under a tent next to the ceremony lawn, with a dance floor laid for the night. Two spaces means one move for your guests between dinner and the dancing, and it is worth building into the timeline rather than hoping it happens on its own.
The boats run while the party does
The couple chartered boat rides that took guests out on the river for about fifteen minutes and brought them back. It is a wonderful thing to give people, and it means part of your crowd is on the water at any given moment while the boats are running. Anything you want everyone there for, a toast or an entrance, gets timed around them.
It gets colder up here
The Thousand Islands sit well north of the Finger Lakes, and a September evening on the river turns chilly. Once the floor filled up nobody noticed, but it is worth telling guests to bring a layer for the ceremony and dinner.
“Our dance floor was packed non stop until the very end of the night, and when he announced our last song no one was ready for it to be over! He ended up staying another hour and a half.”
Questions worth asking about a waterfront venue
These come up at nearly every lakeside and riverside property, and the answers shape your timeline more than most couples expect.
Does the venue have a sound limit or a curfew?
The wedding I worked here was planned to end at ten and ran until half past eleven. Confirm the latest time music can run with the club directly, and decide ahead of time whether you want the option to keep going, because on a good night up here somebody is going to ask.
Is the ceremony in a different space than the reception?
Yes, three of them, all close together. The ceremony is on the lawn, dinner is on the clubhouse porch, and the dancing is under the tent beside the ceremony lawn. That means a separate sound setup for the ceremony and two short moves for your guests, both easy when they are in the timeline.
Who is coordinating the day?
Some couples hire a planner, some hire a day-of coordinator, some rely on venue staff, and some have none of the above. All four are workable. Put me in touch with whoever is involved and I deal with them directly rather than through you. Where there is no coordinator, the reception timeline is mine to run so that role does not quietly become yours.
Can you work with the venue's in-house sound system?
Yes. I am comfortable working inside house systems or alongside a venue's AV team, and I bring a full professional setup with backup cabling and equipment as standard. Whichever the venue prefers, the integration is worked out before the day.
Do you charge extra to travel here?
Wellesley Island is a long drive north of the Finger Lakes, so travel here is worked out when we talk. It is part of the number I give you rather than a line added afterwards.
