Wedding DJ at Belhurst Castle Geneva, NY

The ceremony is outdoors in one spot and cocktail hour moves to a different outdoor spot, both looking out over Seneca Lake, before dinner and dancing go inside to the banquet hall. Three locations, and the useful part is knowing how to keep music running across all of them without three separate rigs.

Knowing the Room

What I know about this room

A DJ walking into a room for the first time spends the first hour learning it. Where power is, how the ceremony space carries sound, where the booth can sit without blocking a sightline, how long load-in actually takes when the parking is full.

None of that is difficult. It is just time, and on a wedding day time is the one thing nobody has spare. Having worked Belhurst Castle before means that hour is already spent, and it was spent on a day that was not yours.

I arrive two and a half to three hours early regardless. At a venue I already know, that margin goes toward testing and detail rather than orientation.

Three locations, but not three setups

The ceremony gets its own system. For cocktail hour I ran a wireless speaker just outside, immediately behind the booth, fed from the main booth inside, so the cocktail area and the reception came off the same rig rather than a third independent setup. Fewer moving parts, and the music does not stop while something gets carried from one place to another.

The dance floor is in the middle of the room

The banquet hall puts an open floor at the center with the room arranged around it, rather than pushing dancing to one end. It is a good space to work: nobody is seated with their back to the floor, and the room fills from the middle outward instead of leaving a gap between the tables and the dancing.

The lawn ends in a steep bank

The outdoor areas look out over the lake, and at the edge the ground drops away sharply to the railway line below. It is nothing to an adult standing with a drink, but it is worth a quiet word to anyone bringing small children, and worth a thought about where the youngest guests will be during cocktail hour.

More than one ceremony spot on the grounds

The property has more than one place a ceremony can be held, so the view you end up with is a decision rather than a given. Worth walking with them before you settle it, because it also sets how far your guests travel between the ceremony and cocktail hour.

Questions worth asking about any Finger Lakes venue

These come up at nearly every winery and lakeside property in the region, and the answers shape your timeline more than most couples expect.

Does the venue have a sound limit or a curfew?

Many Finger Lakes properties do, particularly for outdoor ceremonies and receptions near residences. The number matters less than knowing it early. If music has to come down at a set time, the emotional arc of the night gets built to peak before that point rather than being cut off at it. Ask your venue for the specific decibel limit, where it is measured, and whether indoor and outdoor limits differ.

Is the ceremony in a different space than the reception?

Yes, and cocktail hour is in a third place again. The ceremony is outdoors, cocktail hour moves to a separate outdoor area overlooking Seneca Lake, and dinner and dancing are inside in the banquet hall. Each move needs a sound plan and a few minutes in the timeline, which is straightforward once it is decided in advance.

Who is coordinating the day?

Some couples hire a planner, some hire a day-of coordinator, some rely on venue staff, and some have none of the above. All four are workable. Put me in touch with whoever is involved and I deal with them directly rather than through you. Where there is no coordinator, the reception timeline is mine to run so that role does not quietly become yours.

Can you work with the venue's in-house sound system?

Yes. I am comfortable working inside house systems or alongside a venue's AV team, and I bring a full professional setup with backup cabling and equipment as standard. Whichever the venue prefers, the integration is worked out before the day.

Do you charge extra to travel here?

No. I have worked this venue, so getting there is already part of the number I give you rather than a line added afterwards. Travel for venues further afield, including destination weddings, is worked out per event when we talk.
