What I know about this room
A DJ walking into a room for the first time spends the first hour learning it. Where power is, how the ceremony space carries sound, where the booth can sit without blocking a sightline, how long load-in actually takes when the parking is full.
None of that is difficult. It is just time, and on a wedding day time is the one thing nobody has spare. Having worked Brook-Lea Country Club before means that hour is already spent, and it was spent on a day that was not yours.
I arrive two and a half to three hours early regardless. At a venue I already know, that margin goes toward testing and detail rather than orientation.
Your ceremony may not be here at all
The wedding I worked was a church ceremony off-site, with Brook-Lea handling the reception only. That is a genuinely different day to plan: no ceremony setup, no transition to manage, and a timeline that starts with guests arriving already gathered. The club does hold ceremonies on the property, but I have not worked one here, so that is a question for them rather than for me.
The entrance comes down a staircase onto the floor
There is a walkway above the room and stairs down to the floor, and the wedding party uses them for introductions. It is a better entrance than walking in through a door at floor level, because the room sees them before they arrive. Introductions, first dance and everything else then happen on the same floor rather than moving.
Guests sit on both sides of the dancing
The floor sits in the center with tables to either side, so the dancing is surrounded rather than pushed to one end. Nobody eats with their back to it, and the floor fills from the middle outward. Compared with the older clubs in the region this room reads distinctly modern, which suits couples who want elegant rather than traditional.
Cocktail hour is out on the balcony
Overlooking the golf course, which is the best view on the property and gets your guests outside without leaving the building. It also means cocktail hour and the reception are two clearly separate places, so the move back inside is a moment worth building rather than letting drift.
Questions worth asking about any Finger Lakes venue
These come up at nearly every winery and lakeside property in the region, and the answers shape your timeline more than most couples expect.
Does the venue have a sound limit or a curfew?
Many Finger Lakes properties do, particularly for outdoor ceremonies and receptions near residences. The number matters less than knowing it early. If music has to come down at a set time, the emotional arc of the night gets built to peak before that point rather than being cut off at it. Ask your venue for the specific decibel limit, where it is measured, and whether indoor and outdoor limits differ.
Is the ceremony in a different space than the reception?
At most wineries and lakeside properties, yes. That means a second sound setup, a transition window, and a plan for moving guests. It is straightforward when it is planned and awkward when it is not. This is one of the first things I confirm.
Who is coordinating the day?
Some couples hire a planner, some hire a day-of coordinator, some rely on venue staff, and some have none of the above. All four are workable. Put me in touch with whoever is involved and I deal with them directly rather than through you. Where there is no coordinator, the reception timeline is mine to run so that role does not quietly become yours.
Can you work with the venue's in-house sound system?
Yes. I am comfortable working inside house systems or alongside a venue's AV team, and I bring a full professional setup with backup cabling and equipment as standard. Whichever the venue prefers, the integration is worked out before the day.
Do you charge extra to travel here?
No. I have worked this venue, so getting there is already part of the number I give you rather than a line added afterwards. Travel for venues further afield, including destination weddings, is worked out per event when we talk.
