A genuinely beautiful barn high up in the woods, with the dance floor and dinner sharing the downstairs and a mezzanine looking down over it. It is also a facility rental rather than a package: no staff, no coordinator, and almost no cell service. I have worked it, and it is the kind of venue where who is running your timeline matters more than anywhere else.
What I know about this room
A DJ walking into a room for the first time spends the first hour learning it. Where power is, how the ceremony space carries sound, where the booth can sit without blocking a sightline, how long load-in actually takes when the parking is full.
None of that is difficult. It is just time, and on a wedding day time is the one thing nobody has spare. Having worked The Homestead at Whitetail Valley before means that hour is already spent, and it was spent on a day that was not yours.
I arrive two and a half to three hours early regardless. At a venue I already know, that margin goes toward testing and detail rather than orientation.
The barn is genuinely lovely
Dance floor and dinner seating share the downstairs, with a mezzanine above that looks down over the floor. If your guest count runs high, tables can go upstairs as well. The bridal suite is upstairs at the back.
There is no coordinator here
This is the single most important thing to know. The venue provides the facility and no staff. Nobody is running your day unless you hire someone to, which means either bringing a coordinator or bringing a DJ who can run the reception timeline. I do the second as a matter of course, and at this venue it is not optional.
You are renting the barn
Not a package. Caterer, rentals, bar, and everything else is yours to arrange and yours to coordinate on the day. Beautiful building, and completely bring-your-own.
The ceremony is out in a field
Outdoors, with no house sound and no covered fallback, so ceremony audio and a weather contingency both have to be planned rather than assumed. This is where arriving two and a half to three hours early stops being a preference.
There is almost no cell service
Wi-Fi and phone signal up there range from poor to non-existent. Practically, that means the timeline has to be settled and confirmed with every vendor before anyone drives up, because you will not be reaching anyone once you are on the property.

You need someone running the day, yes. The venue supplies the facility and no staff, so there is nobody on site whose job is keeping your wedding on schedule. Some couples hire a coordinator, and some rely on a DJ who can do it. I connect with every vendor in advance, arrive two and a half to three hours early, and run the reception timeline. At a venue like this that is the difference between a day that flows and a day that drifts.
What does the venue actually include?
The barn, and it is a lovely one. Dance floor and dinner seating downstairs, a mezzanine above overlooking the floor that can hold additional tables if your guest count needs it, and the bridal suite upstairs at the back. Catering, rentals, bar service, and coordination are all yours to arrange, so planning for it is a different exercise than planning for a full-service venue.
Where does the ceremony happen?
Outside in a field. That means a separate ceremony sound setup, no house system to fall back on, and a real weather contingency worth deciding early rather than on the morning.
Is there cell service or Wi-Fi?
Almost none. It is worth telling your guests so they are not expecting to be reachable, and it is worth building the timeline so that nothing depends on a phone call once people are on site. Everything I need for your wedding is confirmed and on hand before I drive up.
Anything you tell guests as they leave?
Watch for deer on the way down the hill. It is called Whitetail Valley for a reason. My first time driving out I counted something close to fifty of them inside a few miles.
Do you charge extra to travel to Rome, PA?
No. Standard travel extends up to 180 miles from the Finger Lakes with no travel fee, which covers The Homestead comfortably.
