Wedding DJ at Inn at Taughannock Trumansburg, NY

Two reception spaces here, and they suit different weddings: a tent outside that takes a crowd, and a room inside the inn that does not. Mine was the inside room: about fifty guests, looking out over Cayuga Lake, and exactly the right size for it.

Knowing the Room

What I know about this room

A DJ walking into a room for the first time spends the first hour learning it. Where power is, how the ceremony space carries sound, where the booth can sit without blocking a sightline, how long load-in actually takes when the parking is full.

None of that is difficult. It is just time, and on a wedding day time is the one thing nobody has spare. Having worked Inn at Taughannock before means that hour is already spent, and it was spent on a day that was not yours.

I arrive two and a half to three hours early regardless. At a venue I already know, that margin goes toward testing and detail rather than orientation.

Two spaces, two different weddings

The tent outside handles large numbers. The room inside the inn does not, and is better for it. Cocktail hour is outdoors either way, so the outdoor area gets used whichever room you take.

The inside room looks over Cayuga Lake

Patterned wallpaper, gilt frames around the pictures, windows onto the water. It is a room with its own character rather than a blank hall, and at about fifty guests it feels intimate rather than empty. That is the room in the clip above.

The ceremony is a few steps outside

There is a dedicated ceremony spot immediately outside, and it is kept in good condition. It can be set up facing more than one direction. I have worked one orientation and seen another with the couple turned toward the lake. Worth settling early, because it decides where the sun sits and what your photographs have behind them.

Outdoor volume, and a firm end time

There is a 90 dB limit outdoors, so the ceremony and anything else outside is built to sit under it. Inside the inn is less constrained. The thing to plan around is the end time: it is set, and they will let you run past it, but it is billed. Building the last hour to peak before the cutoff is the difference between finishing on a high and finishing on a clock.

Planning a wedding at Inn at Taughannock

Questions worth asking about any Finger Lakes venue

These come up at nearly every winery and lakeside property in the region, and the answers shape your timeline more than most couples expect.

Does the venue have a sound limit or a curfew?

Yes to both, and they work differently depending on where you are. Outdoors there is a 90 dB limit. Inside the inn it is less of a constraint. The end time is firm. They will allow you to run past it, but it is charged, so I build the last hour of the reception to peak before the cutoff rather than run into it.

Is the ceremony in a different space than the reception?

At most wineries and lakeside properties, yes. That means a second sound setup, a transition window, and a plan for moving guests. It is straightforward when it is planned and awkward when it is not. This is one of the first things I confirm.

Who is coordinating the day?

Some couples hire a planner, some hire a day-of coordinator, some rely on venue staff, and some have none of the above. All four are workable. Put me in touch with whoever is involved and I deal with them directly rather than through you. Where there is no coordinator, the reception timeline is mine to run so that role does not quietly become yours.

Can you work with the venue's in-house sound system?

Yes. I am comfortable working inside house systems or alongside a venue's AV team, and I bring a full professional setup with backup cabling and equipment as standard. Whichever the venue prefers, the integration is worked out before the day.

Do you charge extra to travel here?

No. I have worked this venue, so getting there is already part of the number I give you rather than a line added afterwards. Travel for venues further afield, including destination weddings, is worked out per event when we talk.
