They will know within two songs.
Students work out very quickly whether the person at the booth respects them or is humoring them, and once they have decided, the floor decides with them. Proms, homecomings and dances, with the same setup I bring to a wedding and clean versions as the default.
What a room full of teenagers actually needs.
A school dance is not a smaller wedding. The crowd is younger, far less patient, and completely honest about whether they are enjoying themselves. I bring the full setup I use the rest of the year, plus extra lighting, because a gym with the house lights up is a gym and a gym with the right lighting is somewhere worth standing.
I stay off the microphone. Students did not come to listen to an adult talk between songs, and a DJ who keeps interrupting is the fastest way to empty a floor. When something genuinely needs announcing it gets said clearly and then I get out of the way.
Clean versions are the default, every track, with no exceptions unless faculty tell me otherwise in advance. Nobody on your staff should be standing by the booth listening for a word that is about to land them in a parent email on Monday.

The real setup, not a scaled down one
The same gear, the same speakers sized to the room, and the same booth I would put in front of three hundred wedding guests. Students notice when they have been given the cheap version of something, and they are right to.
Lighting that changes the room
Moving heads and wash lighting on top of the standard rig. This is the part that turns a cafeteria into somewhere that does not look like a cafeteria, and it does more for the floor than any single song will.
Clean versions, every time
Every track, unless faculty says otherwise ahead of time. No surprises for the chaperones, nothing for anyone to explain afterwards, and no version of the night where this becomes the thing people remember.
